Installing new lights

I like to joke that I think the previous owners had to be bats as it was so dark inside the house! I like my home to be light but also have the option to dim if needed.

You already saw my old kitchen light here, but in case you forgot …

My daughter loves this light so it will be installed in her home above her kitchen sink at a later date. Covid-19 has us waiting for a lot of things these days.

I found a new kitchen light that I loved online but when it arrived I was surprised to find it was a pendant light. You know … the kind that plugs into the wall. I had to adapt it to be able to hardwire it to the ceiling and find the right mounting cover.

I am loving my new light! It matches my mason jar drinking glasses 😎

Before we were “Shelter in place”, I bought new clear glass sconce replacements and new light bulbs to go with the modern farmhouse that I had in mind. I had my lovely assistant, AKA my mother, hold them up for me so I could make her famous (hahaha) and show you the difference.

The bulbs and glass sconce made a huge difference. As Batty Koda from the movie Fern Gully said, “I can see! It’s a miracle!” Seriously tho, I saved a lot of money by not having to buy all new sconces. There were six in all that I replaced. I am loving the new look!

I found the perfect light to go over my stove, but , let me remind you what the old one looked like first …

I have a most amazing friend, thank you Deb, who stood on the counter while avoiding the stove to help me get this beauty up. It was a lot of work but let me tell you, every time I turn it on it makes me smile. I am in love with each of these changes.

I bought the same one for over my dining table that will hang just a bit lower. Spoiler alert: I ran into quite the problem …

Until next time, Stay well and safe,

One hour (or less) lighting project!

My bedroom, like most, needed reading light and I was NOT going to use bedside lamps! I want the light where I can use it. Not, leaning way over to the lamp on the nightstand where my back is sure to get a kink. Ask me how I know about that! Ouch!

I wanted to mount them where I would not leave them when I moved and since our bed happens to be BIG, if I mounted them to the wall, someone else would have to deal with either moving them to accommodate their bed size or remove them all together. I am going to attach them to my bed!

I ran to Ikea to find 2 lights that I could use and found these beauties.

Here is the easy part! Measure down how far you want the lights to be attached and duplicate it on both sides. I used my power screw driver to attach the mounts and then all I had to do was slide the lights onto them. SOOOOO easy!

I even incorporated the other “Joy” to help! She turned the light on for me to make sure it worked 😉

Master Bed3

Don’t you just love little hands?! Even the left over polish on the thumb nail!

“Houston, We have lift off!”

One for each side with their own on/off switch!

And …. now to kick back and enjoy some TV.

VERY easy and QUICK!

You have time to do something fast like this, with your extra hour of daylight savings time!

Happy Autumn!

New Lighting at Christmas!

Everyone is running around shopping for Christmas presents, wrapping, baking, sending out cards … me?

Putting in new lighting in the Kitchen and Dining room.

Let me take you back …

Mr Man came upstairs with a sheepish look on his face and said, “I broke something of yours when I was getting down the Christmas decorations.”

With my raised eyebrow silently asking what was broken, he said, “You know your Thanksgiving pumpkin? If you tell me where you bought it I will replace it.”

(Let me explain that there are pumpkins and then there is THE Thanksgiving Pumpkin)

“Do you know what I would like MORE than replacing that pumpkin? New kitchen lights!”

My kitchen has been too dark for me, as all we have is a pendant light right over the counter/breakfast bar. Not enough to light the kitchen! Off in the truck we went, to find track lighting for the kitchen. I had it at our other home and loved that it lights up everything!

Let me show you what we replaced …

The “Salad Bowl” (nickname of the dining room light) drove me crazy too. I was just going to replace the kitchen lights but as you know … as soon as you do something, something else gets done too!

Mr Man did the honors (while I was working on the Reading Nook).

I ran in when assistance was needed but for the most part, it was Mr Man who changed out the lights.

Soooo much nicer than the “Salad Bowl” Light!!!

We noticed right away two wonderful benefits of our track lighting …

Second, removing the pennant light really opened up the area. Where once your eyes stopped at the light it now opened up the view into the kitchen.

Christmas  was interrupted but not stopped and I love my kitchen and dining room lights!
