“T” is for Talent… YOU do have it!

Yes, T … is for Talent.
Let me tell you about talent, and what this word has to do with me. Growing up, it seemed EVERYONE around me had a talent. I always wished I had one. It always made me feel inferior to others and unhappy with myself. Who knew that it was in ME the whole time … waiting to be discovered?! Certainly not me! My journey has been a progression. If at 18, you told me … some day …. I would build a deck, finish a basement, build a playhouse under a set of stairs, or make a Murphy Bed from a set of plans … I would have thought you were crazy. I needed experiences, lack of money, and courage to step, one step at a time, toward who I am today. It was in me the whole time but the seed needed to be uncovered and allowed to grow. I do have talent … who knew?!
Last weekend, I was at a Bridal Shower with some friends and we were talking about Talent…

Helen, who was sitting next to me, shocked me by just one sentence … “I wish I had talent”. It is shocking because when I am with this woman, I am amazed at the talent that oozes from her! Are most of us women wishing we had talent? Is our talent really not seen by us? or is it just not uncovered yet by life?
Maybe we are raised as girls to not acknowledge it? That would not be ladylike. I am not sure …

Let me tell you about Helen. She has the most amazing voice. She singings effortlessly. Like breathing. She will do anything for you and no matter how little time she has … she makes you feel as though you are the ONLY person, in the moment, that matters. She is gracious and the party doesn’t really start until she is there 🙂
Deb, the bride to be, has talent too…
She can accomplish more in one day than I can in 3. She is organized, smart, and a worker bee like no other. If you need to have something done … she is the person to go to. We are only born a few days apart but our personalities and strengths could not be farther apart. Yet, she is an amazing friend and we hang out as often as we can find the time in our busy schedules. Our next get together? Her wedding!!! Congrats Deb and Dave!
and last, but not certainly never the least, Marci.
I adore this person! She is funny, an amazing hostess, and she can cook! She hosts annual Christmas parties for her friends. Sets a phenomenal table (complete with menu), cooks, and even has homemade parting favors for all of us. Yet, she works in an office full time making sure that events get planned and executed. I truly do not know how she does it all. And … when we go out to dinner? I always order what she does as she knows more about food than I ever will! Even how to pronounce all those french names!
I am blessed to have these talented women in my life. They are so incredibly special to me. Do they know they have these talents? Well, 2 of them do. Helen? Do you?
When did YOU find out you had a talent?
Happy Monday,

Hello, Fellow Challenger, from #399 – aka Rockin’Chair Reflections! I think you’re right. We’re raised to think everyone ELSE has talent and what we do is just okay. (I think the reasoning was that we wouldn’t get to thinking too much of ourselves — yet, the boys were raised to think they were the only ones with talent! Different generations.) What’s really great is that you’ve recognized just how gifted you are. It takes many different talent what you do and you should be very proud to take a bow. Love that Murphy bed… Love it; love it.

some of the best talents are those you can not see. I’ve always enjoyed writing and singing and dancing and drawing. I know I draw pretty great, I started off badly with dancing. Writing, well, I think I write pretty good… As far as singing? Well, ask yourself this: think of the thing that you feel most alive. You don’t have to have a vibrato to say you have a talent in singing. Nor do you have to win first prize in the art competition. Just when you feel most alive as you do it is what screams TALENT!

Talent was my T word also! I used a quote by Erma Bombeck that I just love. I think we all have some sort of talent and it’s our responsibility to figure out what it is and use it. 🙂

    Happy A-Z!
